MALE INFERTILITY

Sperm count or low sperm motility are the most frequent fertility problems in men and can cause that a couple cannot conceive a child.

Many semen alterations are genetic but no treatment that could repair these genetic defects currently exists. However, increasingly advanced assisted reproduction techniques can help to convert male infertility into a minor problem in a couple wishing to have a baby.

Indicated techniques in cases of male infertility

Artificial Insemination by Husband (AIH) and In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF): These techniques are recommended in cases of moderately low sperm count and motility. Patients undergo a 3-month AIH treatment. If the result is not satisfactory, the couple undergoes IVF with intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI).

IVF with ICSI or Artificial Insemination by Donor: If the sperm count is severely low and motility is low, the couple can directly undergo in vitro fertilisation treatment (IVF) with intracytoplasmic sperm injection or artificial insemination by donor (AID).
